To Be A Man

I love stories. I love the different forms that stories can be shared and the lessons that come from it. I love narrations, dance, oratory, and music. I particularly love how music can be used to share messages and lessons that may be sensitive in nature. I don’t usually do this but this song by Dax, “To be a man” was incredible and relatable to me. I was listening to it this morning and I knew I had to share it.

As I’ve stated before, the society that I come from have preconceived notions of what a man should be – how men should act and what they are expected to do. I love how Dax is able to capture exactly what it means to be a man here. Every single artist on this track did such a great job at telling their versions of what being a man is about. They talk about the need to push forward because you need to provide for your family, the sense of responsibility that outweighs the struggles that one may be facing, the expectation of being the strong one. It touches on thoughts, feelings, and emotions that men goes through every day.

I wanted to put this out there because I want you to know that it’s okay. It’s okay to admit that you don’t have all the answers, that you need a shoulder to lean on, that you need help with getting through life. As you listen to this song, and I hope you do, please take time to looking inward – take time to do a self-assessment. Are you okay? Do you need help? Who can you turn to in time of need? I’d love to hear your thoughts and if you need a help hand, reach out to me.

I hope you enjoy this.
